Indoor Air Quality
We look at filters, ducts, ventilation and humidity to find out why the air in your home feels stale or dusty.
Poor indoor air usually shows up as dust that returns days after cleaning, a musty smell when the system starts, dry air in winter, or allergy symptoms that get worse indoors. The cause is often in the HVAC system itself: a clogged or wrong-size filter, leaky ducts, or humidity that is too high or too low. We start with the basics. We check your filters and how air moves through the system, then look at the ducts and how your home is ventilated. From there we talk through the options that fit your house, which may include an air purifier, a dehumidifier added to the system, duct sealing and cleaning, or better ventilation. We explain what each one does and what it will not do. Changing your filter every 1-3 months helps, more often if you have pets or allergies. Common questions
How often should I change my HVAC filter?
Every 1-3 months is the usual range. Homes with pets, allergy sufferers, or a system that runs a lot should lean toward the shorter end.
Can my existing system be fitted with an air purifier or dehumidifier?
In many cases, yes. We look at your equipment and ductwork first, then tell you what can be added and what would not work well.
Do leaky ducts affect air quality?
They can. Leaks let dust and unconditioned air into the system and make it work harder. We check ducts and can seal them if needed.
